The Children’s Organ Transplant Association (COTA) is a national charity dedicated to helping children and adults with monogenic diseases who need life-saving transplants by organizing and guiding communities in raising funds for transplant-related expenses.

With the cost of a transplant often exceeding $500,000, many transplant families are unable to shoulder the financial burden. Transitioning from pre- to post-transplant presents many costs that are not covered by insurance. Volunteers from NC and PA are raising funds for COTA in honor of Eric; funds are being raised to cover $50,000 worth of Eric's transplant-related expenses.

Eric received a life-saving double-lung transplant on 11/20/2016 following an extended hospitalization for a serious infection, and was initially thought too sick for transplant. Thanks to Eric's determination and the work of Duke's transplant team, Eric's condition stabilized, and he was listed on 11/18. He miraculously received the call about his donor's lungs less than 24 hours later!

Eric was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis (CF), an incurable fatal genetic disease, during an emergency hospitalization at two years old.Throughout his life, Eric has shown heroic strength and courage, as well as a one-of-a-kind loving heart, while fighting his illness every day.

Eric currently lives in Raleigh, NC with the love of his life, Marissa. A talented writer, Eric's other interests include manatee conservation, reading, and movies & video games. He looks forward to traveling with his wife and enjoying time with loved ones.
